Chandigarh, March 3 — Over three months after a pet German Shepherd attacked a 15-year-old boy in Chandigarh’s Sector 47-C, police have registered an FIR against the unidentified owner. The case, lodged following an investigation, falls under Section 291 (negligent conduct related to animals) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Ritu Sood, her son, Vanad Sood, was in the neighborhood around 4:30 p.m. on November 21 when the dog bit him multiple times, leaving injuries on various parts of his body. “He was bleeding badly, and we rushed him to the civil hospital in Sector 45,” she mentioned. The medical report later confirmed the injuries.
Police initially recorded the case as a daily diary report (DDR) on November 22 at the Sector 31 police station. Investigators visited the victim’s home to verify details before proceeding with formal charges.
Sector 31 SHO Inspector Rajeev said officers are working to trace the dog’s owner. “We are working to identify and arrest the owner of the dog,” he stated.
