Amritsar, March 11 — Former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht, Giani Raghbir Singh, called on devotees visiting Sri Keshgarh Sahib during Hola Mohalla to maintain a clean and peaceful environment at the Guru Ghar and avoid noisy hustle- Bustle.

He alerted against disruptive behaviors that mar the sanctity of the occasion.

Singh noted that activities such as riding motorcycles or driving tractors with loudspeakers, and youths removing silencers from their bikes to burst crackers, are not in keeping with the spirit of the festival.

“It is seen that three or four people ride on a motorcycle or drive tractors with big speakers and play songs. They should not do such things,” he said.

He said that Hola Mohalla is a time for the Sangat to perform seva, with many serving langar, assisting couples, providing transport, or offering medical services.

“We should go to the Guru Ghar with a clean and peaceful environment,” Singh added.

The former Jathedar also expressed concern over the risk to public safety, accentuating that the hustle and bustle of the festivities sometimes leads to accidents that endanger lives, including those of mothers, sons, and sisters’ brothers.

He further urged organizations involved in langar services to adopt eco-friendly practices and use only quality items to ensure cleanliness and avoid spoiling the environment.

Hola Mohalla is a Sikh festival celebrated the day after Holi, primarily at Anandpur Sahib in Punjab. Established by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1701, the festival showcases martial traditions, spiritual devotion, and community service.

Unlike Holi, which is marked by playing with colors, Hola Mohalla features mock battles, Gatka (Sikh martial arts), horse-riding displays, and kirtan (devotional music).

Large gatherings of devotees participate in processions, listen to religious discourses, and perform seva (selfless service), especially through langars (community kitchens).

The event symbolizes Sikh valor, discipline, and solidarity, reinforcing the principles of Saint-Soldier (Sant-Sipahi) as envisioned by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
