New Delhi, 6 February 2025: The Customs Department seized over 10 kg of gold coins worth approximately ₹7.8 crore from two passengers at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out based on intelligence inputs from a confidential source.
Officials said the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) intercepted the two male passengers, who had arrived from Milan, Italy, on Air India flight AI-138. Their suspicious behavior during surveillance and profiling led to their detention at the Green Channel for further inspection.
While a baggage scan showed no anomalies, a private search triggered by a DFMD (Door Frame Metal Detector) alert revealed two specially designed waist belts concealed with gold coins wrapped in plastic envelopes.
The detained passengers, aged 45 and 43, are residents of Kashmir. Officials continue to investigate the case, and further action is being taken under customs regulations.
