Udhampur, Feb 3: An encounter broke out between terrorists and a joint team of security forces in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur on Tuesday. The operation was initiated following precise intelligence regarding the presence of armed insurgents in the high-altitude forested region, prompting a swift response from the Army and local police.

Troops from the CIF Delta and the White Knight Corps, alongside personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF, established contact with the hiding group around 4 pm. Security officials mentioned that the area has been heavily cordoned off to prevent any escape, with the firefight continuing into the late evening hours.

The Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed the development through a statement on social media, noting that the engagement remains active. While the intensity of the exchange remains high, further details regarding casualties or the number of trapped terrorists have yet to be shared by the field commanders.

“In an intelligence-based joint operation, contact has been established with the terrorists,” the Army said. Officials noted that additional reinforcements have been rushed to the site to strengthen the perimeter and ensure the operation concludes without collateral damage.
