Toronto, Oct 29: Gunshots were fired at Punjabi singer Channi Nattan’s house in Canada, a day after Punjabi industrialist Darshan Singh Sahsi was killed — both incidents now claimed by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Authorities confirmed that the gang, a criminal network operating across India and abroad, has taken responsibility for the two back-to-back attacks. In a Facebook post, Goldie Dhillon, identified as a Bishnoi gang member, said Sahsi was targeted after he “refused to pay extortion money.”
Canadian police have launched separate investigations into the murder and the shooting, while security has been strengthened around members of the Indo-Canadian community considered at risk. “We are treating both incidents very seriously,” an officer said, adding that coordination with Indian agencies is underway.
The Bishnoi gang, led by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has long been associated with extortion, contract killings, and narcotics trade. Though Bishnoi has been in prison in India since 2014, police say he continues to direct operations through his network of associates.
The group became widely known after the 2022 killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, and has since been listed as a terrorist organization in Canada for its transnational criminal activities. Its members maintain a strong presence in regions with large Punjabi diaspora populations, making enforcement efforts increasingly complex.
In his online post, Dhillon alleged that Sahsi’s killing was linked not only to extortion demands but also to his “involvement in the drug trade.” Investigators, however, have yet to verify those claims
