Mohali, March 14– A 24-year-old taxi driver was robbed of his car at gunpoint near the Phase 2 market after midnight on Wednesday.

Navdeep Singh, a resident of Garhshankar in Hoshiarpur, was returning to Mohali after dropping off a passenger at VR Punjab mall when four armed men in a Swift car intercepted him.

“I had stopped for juice before heading to my taxi stand in Phase 2. Near the temple, a Swift with a Haryana number tried to block me, but I sped away. When I turned into the market for safety, the car cut me off,” Navdeep told police.

Two masked men stepped out, pointed a gun at him, and forced him to surrender his belongings. “One stood by my door while the other opened the navigator seat and threatened me,” he added. The assailants then dragged him out before fleeing toward Madanpura Chowk in his Maruti Swift Dzire (PB01-D-6663).

Navdeep immediately alerted his employer, Rajwinder Singh, who called the police.

Investigators said CCTV footage helped identify the suspects’ vehicle. “The carjackers escaped toward Chappar Chiri. We have crucial leads and will arrest them soon,” an officer said.

Phase 1 police have booked the accused under Sections 309(4), 3(5), and 25 of the BNS.
