Gurugram, March 14: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has unveiled plans for a new Rs 166.96 crore integrated sewage treatment facility at Dhanwapur. The project aims to bolster the city’s drainage infrastructure while contributing to environmental efforts to reduce pollution in the Yamuna River.

The proposed plant will have the capacity to treat 100 million liters per day (MLD), raising the total capacity at the Dhanwapur site from 218 MLD to 318 MLD. Officials stated that the project, which includes a main pumping station and a Bio-Compressed Biogas (Bio-CBG) unit, will now be presented to the High-Powered Works Purchase Committee for final approval.

Authorities maintained that the facility will utilize Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) technology. This advanced system is designed to meet the strict wastewater standards set by the National Green Tribunal. Once processed, the treated water will be diverted for non-potable uses, such as horticulture, to conserve fresh water resources.

“The integrated project will ensure that wastewater from sectors 81 to 104 is properly treated before disposal,” a GMDA official declared.

A significant feature of the initiative is the Bio-CBG plant, which will convert bio-sludge into renewable energy. The facility is expected to generate approximately 5,000 cubic meters of biogas daily for local distribution. Construction is slated for completion within 24 months of the contract award, which will also cover a decade of operation and maintenance.
