Chandigarh, 15 October 2024: In a bid to combat immigration fraud, Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur urged police officers to take decisive action against agents who exploit individuals with false promises of sending them abroad.

“We must act on all complaints and ensure that cases of fraud are dealt with according to the standard operating procedures,” Kapur stated, underscoring the urgency of dismantling the networks of these fraudulent agents and noting that new laws allow for the attachment of properties belonging to those convicted of such scams.

Kapur conducted a video conference with senior police officials, including inspectors general, police commissioners, and superintendents of police, to address strategies for reducing violent crime and enhancing the capabilities of Haryana Police. The session also included an update on ongoing anti-drug initiatives.

He instructed superintendents of police to personally oversee immigration fraud cases, particularly visa scams, which can lead to severe consequences for youth and potentially steer them toward criminal behavior abroad.

Emphasizing the necessity of advanced weapons training for police personnel to combat violent crime and ensure community safety, DGP Kapur directed officials to select young officers within their districts to form training groups. “It is crucial to equip our officers with high-quality training to handle weapons effectively in appropriate situations,” he remarked.

He also mandated that skilled trainers be chosen for this purpose, with the police headquarters responsible for designing the training programs. This initiative will commence on October 21, spanning 7 to 10 days and including both weapons handling and soft skills training.

During the meeting, the progress of the anti-drug campaign throughout Haryana was also assessed. DGP Kapur tasked superintendents of police with establishing clear objectives aimed at making villages and wards drug-free by December 31.

“We need to ensure that drugs do not enter our communities and that those addicted receive proper treatment,” he added.

He instructed police officers to create teams within each station to spearhead anti-drug initiatives, conduct door-to-door outreach, and facilitate rehabilitation for individuals affected by substance abuse.

The DGP stressed that drug prevention and treatment efforts must be equally prioritized to realize a drug-free society.
