JHAJJAR, May 26 — The Haryana Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of an alleged assault on a Class 11 student by a teacher at a private school in Jhajjar district, issuing firm instructions to district authorities for a swift and accountable inquiry.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on May 17, came to light after the student’s father filed a complaint alleging that the boy’s hand was broken by the teacher, identified as Sonu alias R.S. Rathore.
“My son is mentally disturbed due to the incident,” the father stated in his complaint, adding that school staff had informed him via phone that his son had suffered a fracture and was being treated at a hospital.
The Commission has instructed the District Education Officer (DEO) to carry out an urgent institutional audit of the school, with a focus on whether the institution has a functional child protection policy, grievance redressal mechanisms for students and parents, and internal staff disciplinary procedures.
In parallel, the Superintendent of Police (SP), Jhajjar, has been directed to oversee a fair and time-bound investigation personally. A detailed status report—including medical records and statements of all involved parties—must be submitted within four weeks.
Both the DEO and SP have been asked to furnish their respective findings by July 8, the next scheduled hearing date before the Commission.
The Jhajjar police have registered a case against the teacher and begun investigation, while the student continues to recover. The case has raised serious concerns around child safety, corporal punishment, and institutional accountability in educational settings.
