Chandigarh, November 2, 2024: A joint search operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police has successfully disrupted a major drug smuggling operation, seizing heroin valued at approximately Rs 17 crore. The operation, led by the Amritsar Rural Police’s CIA team, targeted a narcotics network near the India-Pakistan border.
Amritsar Rural SSP Charanjit Singh Sohal confirmed that the accused, identified as Gurlal Singh, had been operating under the guise of leasing land close to the Defense Canal, exploiting its proximity to the border. According to police, Gurlal was orchestrating large heroin shipments from Pakistan using drones, then distributing the narcotics within India.

SSP Sohal disclosed that Gurlal had been coordinating with a Pakistani smuggler known as Lala, sourcing heroin through this connection. Police have filed charges against Gurlal Singh and are pursuing further investigations.
In a separate case, the Amritsar Rural Police also made progress in a recent bank robbery investigation. Two suspects were arrested in connection with a robbery at the Punjab National Bank in Nagkalan village, under Majitha police station.
