Chandigarh, Jan 20: The Punjab government has appointed Sukhchain Singh as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Intelligence wing as part of a significant administrative overhaul of the state’s police force.
An official order released by the Department of Home Affairs on Tuesday confirmed the immediate transfer and reposting of several senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers across various wings.
Singh, a member of the 2003 IPS batch, previously served as the IGP at the Punjab Police Headquarters.
He takes over the intelligence responsibilities from Director General of Police (DGP) PK Sinha, who was handling the post as an additional charge. Sinha will remain in his primary role as the Director of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.
“The state government has reallocated these responsibilities to streamline operations and enhance administrative efficiency within the senior leadership,” a spokesperson noted regarding the move.
The reshuffle also involved high-ranking officers in the 1994 batch. Naresh Arora has been designated as the Special DGP for Human Rights in Chandigarh.
He will manage this role alongside his existing duties as DGP for the Punjab State Human Rights Commission. Similarly, SS Srivastava has transitioned from his post as Special DGP of Security to become the Special DGP of Headquarters in Chandigarh.
In the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) ranks, Dr. Kaustubh Sharma has been moved from the Human Rights division to take over as ADGP of Security for the state.
Middle-level management also saw changes, with Sandeep Goel being assigned as DIG for the Anti-Gangster Task Force-2 in Ludhiana. He will continue to oversee the Border Range in Amritsar as an additional charge.
Other notable shifts include Kanwaldeep Singh’s move to AIG Personnel-1 and Maninder Singh’s appointment as AIG Welfare, which he will handle while remaining the SSP of Ropar.
