Chandigarh, Jan 20: The Punjab government has officially commenced a high-level campaign titled ‘Gangsters te Vaar’ to eliminate organized crime across the state. AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu announced on Tuesday that the initiative follows the administration’s successful efforts to disrupt drug supply chains and dismantle narcotics networks. He noted that the new crackdown is being executed on a war footing, with coordinated police teams conducting multiple raids throughout Punjab starting early Tuesday morning.
“This campaign reflects the strong political will of the Mann government to completely uproot gangsterism from Punjab,” Pannu directly said during a press conference. He noted that while previous decades saw the rise of criminal culture under different administrations, the current government maintains a policy of zero tolerance. He mentioned that the police are already seeing results from the initial phase of the operation, with significant outcomes anticipated within the next 72 hours.
The media in-charge noted that the state is also focusing on international cooperation to address criminals operating from outside the country. He mentioned that dossiers have been prepared and shared with the Central Government to facilitate the extradition of gangsters sitting abroad. He noted that the Punjab Police is prepared to pursue these individuals across state and national borders within the legal framework to ensure the peace of the region is maintained.
“If a gangster fires bullets, he will not be answered with lullabies,” Pannu said, quoting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He noted that those who attempt to threaten citizens or demand extortion will face a decisive response from the law enforcement agencies.
