Chandigarh, 25 February — Chandigarh Police raided a club in Sector 9 on Sunday night, seizing two hookahs being served without a valid license. The operation, carried out by Police Station-3 personnel around 11:15 p.m., followed a tip-off about illegal hookah service at the venue.

Officers found patrons smoking hookah in the basement, but they fled through the back door upon spotting the police. The club’s operators, identified as Sunny Papneja and Harvinder Singh alias Harry, also escaped.

The premises were filled with smoke, and staff members failed to produce any permit for serving hookah.

Police confiscated the hookahs and registered a case against Papneja and Singh under Sections 4(A), 21(A), and 27(A) of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003. Officials stated that strict action would be taken against violators and that similar raids would continue to enforce tobacco laws.
