Chennai, August 12: An IndiGo flight originating from Kolkata carried out a priority landing at Chennai International Airport late Tuesday night after experiencing a left-engine failure shortly before arrival. Chennai airport officials declared a full emergency to activate all necessary ground safety arrangements ahead of touchdown. The aircraft landed safely on Runway 25 at 11:37 PM, with all 224 people on board disembarking without injury.
Airport operations resumed normal procedures shortly after the emergency protocol was formally withdrawn at 11:47 PM. Ground teams and technical personnel immediately received the aircraft for inspection. Airline representatives affirmed that established safety guidelines were followed throughout the situation, allowing crew members to handle the technical issue without further disruption.
“The aircraft experienced a technical snag shortly before landing, and following standard operating procedures, all relevant authorities were immediately informed,” an IndiGo spokesperson stated.
“The pilots subsequently made a priority landing at Chennai International Airport, and all passengers and crew members safely disembarked,” the spokesperson affirmed.
“The aircraft is currently undergoing necessary checks and maintenance and will resume operations after relevant clearances,” the representative added.
Airport officials declared that ground assistance was placed on high alert purely as a precautionary measure to guarantee a seamless arrival. The event concluded safely without casualty, and the aircraft will remain grounded until complete technical evaluations are finalized.
