IPL 2025: This is Shreyas Iyer’s 10th IPL season. But he has not scored a century yet. In the first match of IPL 2025, which was also his debut as captain of Punjab Kings, Shreyas scored 90 runs in 38 balls. The match was being played against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After playing 117 matches, it seemed that his first IPL century would be completed. But batting at a strike rate of 230 in the 17th over, he got to play only 4 balls in the next three overs and he remained unbeaten after scoring 97 runs.
Shashank Singh instructed to hit boundaries
Shreyas gave priority to the interest of the team and instructed fellow batsman Shashank Singh to hit boundaries and instead of playing for his century. Shashank also kept his trust and scored 44 runs in 16 balls which included 2 sixes and 6 fours. Thanks to this performance, Punjab Kings have posted a strong score of 243/5.
During the innings break, former India coach Ravi Shastri asked Shashank about his reaction to Shreyas remaining unbeaten on 97 runs. Shashank told that Shreyas had said in the beginning, “Don’t worry about my century, just play your shots.”
Shreyas was very happy to contribute to his team’s victory. He said that scoring 97 runs in the first match of the season was special and Shashank’s innings made our victory easier.
On thinking that Shreyas gives priority to the team. Many fans praised his sportsmanship. With this great start, Punjab Kings have indicated a good performance in the season.
