May,11: IPL 2025: Before deciding on a schedule for the IPL 2025 restart, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will confer with the national government and other stakeholders. The board will convene to plan the league’s future after obtaining input over the next 48 hours, according to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia. There are 16 games left in the season, including four playoff matches.

BCCI Closely Monitoring the Situation

“We are currently on the second day of the seven-day IPL suspension imposed by the BCCI yesterday, with five days remaining. Hours after India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz, ‘The BCCI is closely monitoring the evolving situation and developments and will take a call on IPL resumption after consulting all stakeholders of IPL and the concerned government authorities.'”

Government Consultation Before Resumption

Given that IPL is a national league, the BCCI wishes to consult the Government of India. “We will start consultations with the franchises, broadcasters, sponsors, and state associations that will host the remaining matches in the next 48 hours before finalizing a decision on the league’s resumption,” the BCCI stated.

Importance of Government Approval

“Considering the significance of the IPL at this point, it will also be wise and essential to have the approval of the Indian government before deciding on a starting date. When everything is finished, BCCI will appropriately announce when the IPL will resume.”

Suspension Followed Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals Cancellation

The league was suspended by the BCCI on Friday, May 9 following the cancellation of  Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals game in Dharamsala. According to Cricbuzz, the BCCI does not want to extend the IPL season beyond May. Even if the schedule includes a few extra doubleheaders, the board aims to complete the remaining 16 games within a window of 12–14 days.

Foreign Players Await Further Updates

No information about franchise management contacting their foreign players was available at the time of reporting. Representatives of several franchises expressed similar views, all stating they would wait for further updates before recalling their overseas players. However, if the league resumes within a week, many foreign players are expected to return. Some international players have not yet departed, and they may be asked to remain.

Chennai Super Kings Still Committed to the League

Even though we are not in the running for a play-off berth, we still want the league to be done. The CEO of the Chennai Super Kings, Kasi Viswanathan stated We want the IPL, a prestigious competition, to collaborate with the BCCI on this issue. We have informed overseas players that they might need to return in a week as we only have two games left.
