Israeli strikes in central Beirut killed 22 people and injured over 100, according to Lebanese authorities.

Meanwhile, a senior Hezbollah official narrowly escaped an Israeli assassination attempt in the city, as confirmed by three security sources.

In southern Lebanon, two United Nations peacekeepers were injured when an Israeli tank fired at a watchtower near the force’s main headquarters in Ras al-Naqoura, leading the U.N. to warn that its personnel are facing increasing risks, according to reports.

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which began a year ago when Hezbollah supported Palestinians at the onset of the Gaza war, has escalated sharply in recent weeks, with Israel launching heavy strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, the south, and the Bekaa Valley, targeting and killing many of Hezbollah’s senior leaders.
