BEIJING, July 14 — External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday said that the steady normalisation of India-China relations could lead to shared benefits for both nations, during a meeting with Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng in Beijing.

“The continued normalisation of our ties can produce mutually beneficial outcomes,” Jaishankar remarked, underscoring the importance of sustained dialogue between the two neighbours.

Jaishankar is in Beijing ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ meet, and is expected to hold talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi later in the day.

“Our bilateral relationship, as you have pointed out, has been steadily improving since the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan last October,” the minister said, according to a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs. “I am confident that my discussions during this visit will maintain that positive trajectory.”

Among the developments noted during the talks was the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra — a pilgrimage route with deep cultural and spiritual significance for Indian citizens. “The resumption of the Yatra is widely appreciated in India,” Jaishankar said, calling it a positive step forward in people-to-people engagement.

Touching on broader geopolitical dynamics, Jaishankar noted the complexity of the current global situation. “As neighbouring countries and major economies, an open exchange of views and perspectives between India and China is very important,” he said.

This visit comes shortly after India and China marked 75 years of diplomatic ties, a milestone seen by both sides as an opportunity to reset and strengthen cooperation across sectors.
