Amritsar, Feb 20 — Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Raghbir Singh, released the Nanakshahi Calendar for Sammat 557 (2025-26) today in the presence of Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Sultan Singh and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) representatives.
This year’s calendar marks the 350th anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Gurta-Gaddi Diwas and the 350th anniversary of the martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and his fellow Sikhs—Bhai Mati Das Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji, and Bhai Dayala Ji.
Speaking at the launch, Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh urged the Sikh community to observe Gurpurabs and other historic events according to the Nanakshahi calendar.
“Every community follows its own calendar, and Sikhs take pride in having one that reflects our distinct identity,” he stated.
Giani Sultan Singh echoed this sentiment, appealing to Sikhs worldwide to install the Nanakshahi calendar in gurdwaras and homes.
SGPC Chief Secretary S. Kulwant Singh Mannan accentuated that the Nanakshahi year begins with the month of Chet and extended his congratulations on the upcoming Sammat 557.
He also outlined key centenaries to be observed this year.
The event was attended by SGPC members, including Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta, Bhai Ram Singh, S. Surjit Singh Bhittevad, and officials from the Dharam Prachar Committee. Secretaries, deputy secretaries, and other SGPC functionaries were also present.
