CHANDIGARH, APRIL 2: The State Transport Authority (STA) has implemented a unified bus schedule for the Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBT) in Sector 17 and Sector 43 to end long-standing conflicts between transport operators. Officials stated on Thursday that the new joint timetable is specifically designed to eliminate overlapping departure times and disorganized bay allocations that have frequently led to confrontations on the ground.

The initiative follows persistent disputes involving drivers and conductors from various state transport undertakings, particularly at the busy ISBT-43 hub. The STA noted that the lack of a synchronized schedule often resulted in multiple buses attempting to occupy the same parking bays simultaneously, causing operational chaos and passenger confusion.

“The unified timetable will ensure more systematic bus operations and minimize confusion among operators,” a senior transport official asserted. He affirmed that the primary objective of this move is to bring much-needed order to the daily usage of bus bays.

The new schedule was finalized following a collaborative process involving several state agencies. The STA maintained that the agreement includes the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU), Punjab Roadways, PRTC, Haryana Roadways, and the state transport corporations of Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh.

Authorities affirmed that the move would streamline the transit experience for thousands of commuters. They stated that the mutual consent of all participating states ensures that the new system will be strictly monitored to prevent any further instances of bay-related friction.
