Ludhiana, March 16 – Ludhiana Rural Police arrested Amrit Singh, alias Labha, the main accused in the firing at Lakhe Wale Jewellers near Rani Jhansi Chowk, Jagraon, following an encounter on Sunday.

Singh, a resident of Malsian Wali Basti in Zira, was injured in his right leg during the exchange of fire and is receiving treatment at the local Civil Hospital, where his condition is stable. Police recovered a .32 bore pistol, two live cartridges, and a motorcycle from him.

Ludhiana Rural SSP Dr. Ankur Gupta said the police had been tracking Singh since the March 5 incident. “An intelligence-based operation involving the CIA, Ludhiana Rural, and the AGTF led us to his location near the Jagraon-Sidhwan Bet Road,” Gupta said.

When confronted, Singh fired three shots at the police, one of which struck a police vehicle. “Instead of surrendering, he opened fire, forcing us to retaliate in self-defense,” Gupta said.

An FIR has been registered at City Jagraon Police Station under Sections 125 and 61 of the BNS and Section 25 of the Arms Act.

Gupta reiterated that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann remains committed to maintaining law and order, warning that strict action will be taken against anti-social elements.
