Kharar, August 21: Police in Kharar have arrested a man for strangling his wife to death and disposing of her body in a canal near Rupnagar, along with an accomplice.
The accused, Kamaljit Singh, a resident of Shivalik City, Sector 127 in Kharar, allegedly used his T-shirt to strangle his wife Raj Kaur on August 13. He then placed her body in a bag and dumped it in the canal with the help of his friend Sukhdeep Singh, alias Dimpy, who has also been arrested.
The case came to light when the victim’s brother, Kuldeep Singh of Ludhiana, filed a complaint. He told police that his sister Raj Kaur had married Kamaljit Singh in 2023, but her husband frequently consumed liquor and assaulted her.
According to the FIR, Kuldeep and his mother visited the couple’s residence around 7 am on August 20. When pressed for answers about Raj Kaur’s whereabouts, Kamaljit allegedly confessed to killing her and disposing of the body.
A case under Sections 103, 238, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Kharar City police station.
Police said both accused are in custody and further investigation is underway.
