Knife-Wielding Youths Vandalise Vehicles in Abohar Localities

ABOHAR, July 12 — Armed miscreants created panic in the Nai Abadi area late Friday night, smashing the windows of over a dozen parked vehicles and fleeing before residents could intervene. Eyewitnesses said the attackers — around six youths on two motorcycles — brandished swords and knives as they roamed the streets around 10:30 pm, breaking vehicle windows in Street-10 and adjoining lanes.

Sahil, a local resident, said, “We heard a loud commotion outside. When we rushed out, the youths had already escaped. They had smashed around 10 vehicles.” The incident, he said, was captured on CCTV cameras installed nearby.

Despite recent assurances from the district police that such lawlessness would not be tolerated, residents say night patrolling remains absent, emboldening miscreants.

The residents immediately informed the Abohar City 2 police station, demanding prompt action and restoration of night patrols. “We are scared to even park our vehicles outside now. The police must act decisively,” another resident said.

In a separate but related incident in Ramdev Nagari, youths in a car allegedly attempted to attack a local youth with sharp weapons, who managed to escape. No injuries were reported.

Residents also pointed to another disturbing episode in Rajiv Nagari, where a group of miscreants recently roamed streets at night, daring residents to come out and face consequences for speaking against drug peddling. Despite videos of that incident going viral, locals claim no action was taken, and the police maintain that no formal complaint had been received.

The growing pattern of targeted intimidation, vandalism, and inaction, residents say, reflects a worrying decline in public safety. Many are urging the police to step up surveillance and restore public confidence, especially in vulnerable neighbourhoods.
