Know Bank Holidays for Diwali, Chhath Festivals

Chandigarh, October 21, 2024 — As India gears up to celebrate the festival of Diwali, banks across the country will observe multiple holidays in connection with the festivities and the subsequent Chhath festival. Here’s a detailed look at the bank holiday schedule for Diwali and Chhath this year.

Diwali Bank Holidays:

  • October 31: Banks will remain closed nationwide, except in Tripura, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Jammu and Kashmir. This closure coincides with Diwali, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti, and Narak Chaturdashi.
  • November 1: On this day, which marks Deepavali, Kut, and Kannada Raj Utsav, banks will be closed in Tripura, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Manipur.
  • November 2: The day following Diwali will see bank closures in Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra. This closure is in observance of Bali Pratipada, Bali Padmi, Lakshmi Puja, Govardhan Puja, and Vikram Samvat New Year’s Day.

Chhath Festival Bank Holidays:

  • November 7: Banks will be closed in Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand for Chhath Puja (Sham Arghya).
  • November 8: On the occasion of Chhath Puja (Morning Arghya), banks will again be closed in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Meghalaya.

Additionally, banks will also observe holidays on October 26 (fourth Saturday) and October 27 (Sunday) in the lead-up to Diwali.

This festive season, bank customers are advised to plan their transactions accordingly to avoid any inconvenience.
