LPG Gas Cylinder Prices Hiked Across India

Chandigarh/New Delhi, December 1, 2024 — The start of December has brought a shock to the public as the price of LPG gas cylinders has risen. From today, the cost of a 19 kg commercial gas cylinder has increased, marking a significant hike that will affect both businesses and households across the country.

In Jalandhar, a 14.2 kg domestic gas cylinder now costs Rs 836, while the 19 kg commercial cylinder is priced at Rs 1,899. The smaller 5 kg domestic cylinder is available for Rs 311.50. Similar price increases have been observed in major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. In Delhi, the price of a 19 kg commercial gas cylinder has risen by Rs 16.50, reaching Rs 1,818.50, while in Kolkata, the same cylinder will now cost Rs 1,927, an increase of Rs 15.5. In Mumbai, the price has gone up by Rs 16.50, reaching Rs 1,771, and in Chennai, the price stands at Rs 1,980.50.

Despite the rise in commercial gas cylinder prices, the price of the 14.2 kg domestic gas cylinder remains unchanged at Rs 803 in Delhi and Rs 802.50 in Mumbai.

The price hike comes at a time when the demand for commercial cylinders typically rises, particularly during the wedding season, when large-scale cooking increases. This added expense is expected to burden many households and small businesses that rely on commercial gas cylinders for their daily operations.

The price revision was implemented across the country from December 1, with oil marketing companies citing various factors influencing the increase.

While the hike in commercial cylinder prices may not affect domestic consumers directly, it is likely to increase the overall cost of living, especially in sectors heavily reliant on LPG for cooking and other services.
