Ludhiana, June 15: Ludhiana police have initiated legal proceedings against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councillor Chatarvir Singh, also known as Kamal Arora, following accusations of an altercation at the Municipal Corporation Zone B office. The charges stem from a complaint filed by Parveen Kumar Singla, a Superintending Engineer in the Building and Roads branch, who stated that the councillor obstructed him while he was performing official duties.
According to the official account provided by Singla, the incident took place on June 10. He stated that the councillor entered his workspace alongside an unidentified individual and began using abusive language regarding the quality of road patchwork in Ward No. 20. Singla stated that the situation escalated when the councillor grabbed his collar and initiated a physical struggle. Contractor Vimal Tandon, who was in the office at the time, attempted to intervene as other staff members were alerted by the commotion.
The report notes that municipal employees JE Gaurav Kumar and SDO Balwinder Singh reached the site to assist, eventually guiding the councillor toward the exit. Despite these efforts to de-escalate the situation, Singla asserted that the councillor threw a chair at him, which missed its target and instead impacted a nearby almirah, causing damage to both pieces of furniture. Singla stated that official documents were also destroyed during the scuffle, leading him to characterize the event as a premeditated conspiracy against him.
In response to these claims, councillor Chatarvir Singh denied any wrongdoing when speaking to the press. He maintained that the FIR registered against him was unfounded. Singh stated that the core of the issue was the lack of development work being completed in his ward, coupled with the continued failure of officials to respond to his inquiries. He described the encounter as a minor disagreement and declared that he intended to present evidence in court to support his position. Furthermore, the councillor stated that he would file a formal complaint with the vigilance department to initiate an investigation into the conduct of the concerned officer.
