LUDHIANA, Aug. 24 — A 36-year-old man allegedly died by suicide in his Chet Singh Nagar home after being harassed by his brother-in-law, police said.
Division No. 6 police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against the accused, the deceased’s wife’s brother, and launched an investigation.
According to the complaint filed by the deceased’s sister, her brother had been struggling with a matrimonial dispute and was already fighting a divorce case in court. His wife was living with their children at her maternal house. The complainant further alleged that her brother was not allowed to meet his children and was repeatedly humiliated by his brother-in-law whenever he tried to visit them.
She stated that on the intervening night of August 21 and 22, her brother ended his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his residence.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Onkar Singh, who is investigating the case, confirmed the booking of the accused. “Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against the deceased’s brother-in-law. A search is underway for his arrest,” he noted.
