Ludhiana, Feb 17: Ludhiana police have arrested the live-in partner of a 40-year-old woman after a targeted acid attack in Dugri Colony left the victim with severe facial injuries. Officials stated Tuesday that the suspect, an aspiring social media influencer identified as Paan Singh, was motivated by possessiveness and resentment following the victim’s refusal to stop posting online content.

The incident occurred Monday when a helmeted individual on a motorcycle approached the woman under the pretext of asking a question before dousing her with acid. The victim, a laborer originally from Uttar Pradesh, sustained significant burns to her face and eyes. She was initially treated at the local Civil Hospital before being referred to PGIMER Chandigarh for specialized care.

Additional DCP Karanveer Singh affirmed that the relationship between the two had soured approximately one month ago. The suspect, a 35-year-old mason from Zirakpur, reportedly encouraged the victim to create social media “reels” before becoming controlling and suspicious of her fidelity. “Now you won’t be able to do anything,” the accused allegedly declared during the assault, according to police accounts.

Investigators maintained that Singh had been publishing abusive content about the victim online prior to the attack. Following his arrest, a case was formally registered at the Dugri police station. Authorities noted that the investigation remains ongoing as they examine the suspect’s digital activities and social media history.
