Ludhiana, Nov 13: Ludhiana Police have launched a special campaign to curb the illegal sale of tobacco products and e-cigarettes near schools and educational institutions.
The drive, led by Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, involved coordinated efforts by multiple police teams. Officers from ACP-South, ACP-Industrial Area-B, and Zone-02 police stations actively participated in the operation.
Teams carried out surprise inspections around various schools and took strict action against shopkeepers and vendors found selling tobacco or e-cigarettes to minors or in restricted zones. Officials said several violations were detected, and immediate legal measures were taken against offenders.
Commissioner Sharma said the campaign aims to reinforce the city’s commitment to public health and youth safety. “This initiative sends a clear message that Ludhiana Police is determined to enforce the law and create a healthy environment for students,” he noted.
He added that the department would continue similar drives in the coming weeks. “Our focus is to safeguard young people from addictive and harmful substances and ensure that all vendors comply with existing regulations,” Sharma stated.
The Ludhiana Police have also appealed to the public for support. Citizens have been urged to report any illegal sale of tobacco or e-cigarettes near schools to the nearest police station.
