LUDHIANA: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann maintained that his government remains steadfast in its resolve to build a progressive and equitable state based on the founding ideals of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh.
Speaking at the state-level Jashan-e-Inquilab event organized at Punjab Agricultural University to mark the legendary martyr’s birth anniversary, the Chief Minister affirmed that concrete steps have been taken across the state to honour national heroes. Among key steps taken, the state government named the Mohali airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh, set up a 30-foot bronze statue on Airport Road, and mandated the display of portraits of Bhagat Singh and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in all public offices.
Detailing major infrastructure works, Chief Minister Mann declared that the construction of the ₹52-crore Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Heritage Complex at Khatkar Kalan is approaching completion. The venue will feature a replica of the martyr’s ancestral home, a modern auditorium, curated museum galleries, and an interactive light-and-sound system. He stated that the project will soon open to the public as a national heritage destination.
Highlighting key public welfare milestones over the past four and a half years, the Chief Minister asserted that around 90 percent of households currently receive free electricity. He pointed out that 1,100 Aam Aadmi Clinics have treated over five crore citizens, while more than 70,000 transparent recruitment drives have provided jobs to local youth.
Addressing agricultural and infrastructure needs, Chief Minister Mann declared that canal-based irrigation coverage has increased from 26 percent to 80 percent across the state. He noted that over 45,000 kilometers of roads are undergoing renovation, while 18 toll plazas have been permanently shut to ease financial strain on commuters.
The state event also included cultural performances by prominent folk artists and a theatrical staging of the play Gagan Damama Bajio, illustrating the life and sacrifices of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev.
