CHANDIGARH, Sept 30: Aam Aadmi Party Punjab General Secretary Baltej Pannu maintained that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee leadership must provide a transparent accounting of community funds following allegations involving a foreign national’s extended stay at an SGPC facility.
Addressing a press conference, Pannu stated that on July 23, 2026, an amount of ₹1 lakh was transferred from a official bank account under the name of the SGPC Secretary to the account of a woman from Bahrain. He asserted that the Sikh community, which contributes faithfully to institutional funds, has a right to know who authorized the transaction, the specific purpose of the payment, and under which administrative head it was processed.
Questioning the four-member internal inquiry panel constituted by the SGPC, the AAP leader maintained that junior administrative members cannot effectively investigate senior organizational office-bearers. He asserted that to ensure an impartial probe, the investigation should be handed over to a retired judge or a senior police officer.
Pannu affirmed that Shiromani Akali Dal leaders Sukhbir Singh Badal, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and Bikram Singh Majithia, along with SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami, have maintained complete silence on the matter rather than addressing pressing media queries directly. He maintained that questions regarding the authorization of vehicles, accommodation, and daily expenses over an eight-month period remain unresolved and require a clear public explanation.
