Mann Says Punjab Ignored in Union Budget

Chandigarh, 1 February 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday criticized the Union Budget, claiming the Centre had once again neglected the border state and failed to allocate any financial assistance.

Calling it an “election budget,” Mann accused the Union government of prioritizing Bihar while leaving Punjab’s farmers, youth, and industries without support. “The Centre has neither announced a minimum support price (MSP) for farmers nor provided any package for industries in Punjab,” he said.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her eighth budget in Parliament, but Mann dismissed it as politically driven. In a post on X, he wrote, “The Union government has not given anything to the farmers and youngsters of Punjab.”

Reiterating his criticism, he stated, “Punjab has not been granted anything that could strengthen its economy or secure its future. This budget is only about elections, with announcements solely for Bihar.”

Despite his disappointment, Mann asserted that Punjab would not rely on the Centre for growth. “Once again, the central government has treated Punjab and Punjabis unfairly. However, we will ensure that Punjab stands on its own feet through our own efforts,” he said.
