Samana (Patiala), June 7 – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday assured justice to the families who lost seven children in a tragic road accident in Samana, calling it an “irreparable loss” and promising strict action against those responsible — including individuals accused of obstructing the investigation.

“Nothing can compensate for the loss of such young and bright lives,” Mann said while speaking to reporters after meeting with the bereaved families. “But we will ensure justice is delivered, and no one — however powerful — will be spared.”

The Chief Minister said the state government would take exemplary action against anyone found trying to delay or derail the investigation. “This is not just a case of negligence — it is a crime. Anyone who attempted to shield the guilty or weaken the probe will be punished accordingly,” he said.

The road accident, which took place on the Samana-Patran stretch, has triggered widespread grief and public outrage. In response, Mann announced that the stretch would be upgraded into a four-lane road to improve safety and ease traffic congestion. “This road sees frequent accidents due to high traffic volume. A four-lane upgrade is essential to prevent such tragedies in the future,” he said.

In memory of the deceased children, the Chief Minister announced the creation of a memorial park. “This park will serve as a tribute to the innocent lives lost and a reminder of our duty to protect our children,” he said.

Mann also used the occasion to launch a broader offensive against illegal mining and overloaded vehicles — issues long associated with dangerous road conditions in parts of Punjab. “We are launching a state-wide crackdown. I have directed the police and transport departments to act firmly and without bias,” he said, calling both practices “unpardonable threats to public safety.”

To bolster healthcare in the region, Mann announced an upgrade to the government hospital in Samana with modern facilities. He also committed to adding seven new ambulances to improve emergency response capacity.

The Chief Minister’s visit came as a show of support to families reeling from the tragedy, and as a signal of his government’s intention to act decisively. “We stand shoulder to shoulder with these families,” he said. “Justice will not be delayed, and lives lost will not be forgotten.”
