Ludhiana, April 2: —Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday issued a stern warning to drug peddlers, declaring that those responsible for pushing families into addiction would face “bulldozer justice.”
“We won’t allow them to illuminate their homes with ‘deepmala’ while they destroy others’ lives,” Mann said while addressing students in Ludhiana before flagging off the Walk Against Drugs campaign.
Nearly 6,000 students, including NCC and NSS units, marched through Ghumar Mandi in poll-bound Ludhiana West. Mann administered a pledge, urging them to stay away from drugs and report peddlers in their localities.
He said the Punjab government had been tackling the drug menace for three years and was now in full-scale execution mode, emphasizing opioid-opiate treatment (OOAT) centers and rehabilitation programs. “We will ensure victims receive treatment, complete their education, and secure jobs,” he said.
Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal also addressed the gathering, accusing previous governments of shielding drug traffickers. “For 75 years, no one has taken this step. The bulldozer action is a first in India’s history,” he said, urging students to help build a Rangla Punjab (vibrant and drug-free Punjab).
