MANSA, OCT 15: Administrative authorities suspended Mansa City-2 Station House Officer Inspector Beant Kaur with immediate effect following widespread public demonstrations demanding accountability from local law enforcement. The disciplinary action arrives amid mounting pressure from protesters who asserted that local police units failed to adequately address the rising drug menace within the region.

Mansa Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Chaudhary confirmed the suspension while speaking to media representatives on Thursday, noting that internal assessments regarding administrative oversight remain ongoing. In connection with the ongoing probe into the fatal shooting of anti-drug campaigner Parvinder Singh Jhota, investigators have formally named two additional individuals in the first information report. Sources indicated that the newly implicated suspects are close associates of the prime accused, Ashwani Kumar, with one being a family member.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the main accused possessed two licensed firearms registered under his name, which had been issued approximately two years prior. The fatal confrontation occurred on Tuesday following a dispute over illegal substances at a local medical shop, an incident broadcast live on social media that sparked widespread regional outrage. Police authorities stated that principal suspect Ashwani Kumar along with another individual has been taken into custody, while family members of the accused remain detained as inquiries continue.
