Chandigarh, June 22: Municipal Corporation Commissioner Amit Kumar has sought detailed reports on four civic projects following complaints of alleged irregularities in both the allotment and execution stages. The move signals heightened scrutiny of ongoing infrastructure and waste management initiatives under the Chandigarh civic body’s purview.
The projects under review include the renovation of the Dadumajra community centre, operation and maintenance of dry and wet waste processing plants under the Solid Waste Management Cell, repair and maintenance of Plain Cement Concrete (PCC) tiles on V5 roads in Sector 34C and 34D, and the allotment of tender for bio-mining of waste at the Dadumajra dumping ground.
Officials confirmed that complaints regarding procedural lapses and irregular execution prompted the Commissioner’s directive. Two Superintending Engineers have been instructed to submit comprehensive reports within two weeks.
“The Commissioner has acted swiftly after receiving multiple complaints related to the allotment and work quality of these key projects,” a senior MC official said. “The intent is to ensure transparency and accountability.”
The inquiry comes amid growing public concern over civic project execution and waste management practices in the city, particularly in Dadumajra, where both renovation and waste processing projects have faced delays and questions over quality.
Sources said the Commissioner’s office is likely to take corrective measures once the inquiry reports are reviewed. Further action will depend on the findings submitted by the designated engineering officials.
