Chandigarh, Oct 4: The Punjab Government’s social security initiative to empower widows and destitute women has been proving a backbone for women across the state, with a provision of ₹1,170 crore announced for 2025–26. According to Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur, ₹593.14 crore has already been directly transferred to women’s accounts.
Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development, said the move reflects the government’s broader vision of self-reliance and empowerment. “By August 2025 alone, ₹593.14 crore has been directly transferred into the bank accounts of 6.66 lakh women beneficiaries,” she said.
“This is not just financial relief, but a new wave of confidence for women facing life’s toughest challenges.”
According to Dr. Kaur, the Mann Government’s focus goes beyond financial assistance. “The intention is to help women become self-reliant pillars for their families, securing a better future for their children,” she said.
The initiative’s hallmark is its transparency—direct benefit transfers have completely eliminated middlemen, building greater public trust in the system, she said.
Across Punjab, women beneficiaries are using this support to rebuild lives, start small ventures, and reclaim their sense of independence.
“Punjab is moving swiftly toward becoming a secure, empowered, and inclusive state,” Dr. Kaur added.
“This ₹1,170 crore provision stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to elevate women’s strength and dignity to new heights.”
