AMRITSAR, Kathunangal, May 8 — In the early hours of Thursday, panic spread through Jethuwal village in the Kathunangal area near the Amritsar-Batala road after fragments of what appeared to be a missile were discovered strewn across agricultural fields and residential areas.

The incident occurred shortly after India reportedly carried out precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, escalating regional tensions.

“No damage to life or property has been reported,” said Amritsar (Rural) Senior Superintendent of Police Maninder Singh.

“The people found it lying in the agricultural fields and informed the police about it. Police and forensic teams have been examining it.”

The missile debris, including a 5-foot cylindrical component, was found in the fields of two local farmers, Baldev Singh and Makhan Singh. Parts were also found near homes, sparking fear among villagers who said they heard objects fall around 1:30 a.m.

Coinciding with the discovery, three loud explosions were heard in Amritsar city around the same time, compounding anxiety among urban residents. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed the explosions but said no damage or physical impact was reported.

“Though the noise of explosions was heard, nothing happened in the city area,” he said.

Authorities were unable to immediately determine whether the missile originated from India or Pakistan.

“There was neither any explosion nor any impact on the ground,” SSP Singh reiterated, noting that no crater or blast site was found where the object landed.

In response to the incident, district officials urged the public to remain calm and confirmed that blackout protocols had been reactivated as a precautionary measure.

The Army has also been alerted and is expected to join the ongoing investigation.
