NEW DELHI, AUGUST 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with his Nepalese counterpart Balen Shah to express deep condolences over the loss of lives caused by catastrophic flash floods in Nepal. Assuring full Indian assistance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the people of India stand in complete solidarity with their brothers and sisters in Nepal during this difficult period. He maintained that Indian agencies are coordinating closely with Nepalese authorities on ground-level rescue and relief efforts to mitigate the disaster.
The tragedy unfolded early Wednesday when severe flash floods swept through Nepal’s Rasuwa district along the border with Tibet, claiming at least eight lives and leaving many others feared dead or missing. Reports from across the border in Tibet’s Gyirong county also indicated major casualties and missing persons following a massive mudslide at the land crossing between China and Nepal.
Extending immediate support, Prime Minister Narendra Modi affirmed that India remains fully prepared to deploy all necessary humanitarian resources, medical aid, and disaster response teams to assist affected communities. Nepalese Prime Minister Balen Shah acknowledged the solidarity, noting that security forces and emergency response units have been mobilized to evacuate residents from vulnerable downstream stretches.
Diplomatic channels and border administrative teams have established continuous communication to track search operations, particularly as preliminary reports indicate several foreign nationals and pilgrims are among those out of contact in the region.
