Modi Denies Trump Claim on Operation Sindoor Mediation

NEW DELHI, July 29 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday categorically refuted former US President Donald Trump’s claims of mediation in halting the May hostilities between India and Pakistan, asserting that no world leader asked India to pause Operation Sindoor.

Responding to a 16-hour debate in the Lok Sabha on the military operation, Modi recounted the events of May 9 and 10, saying the decision to halt the operation was taken by India on its own terms, not under international pressure.

“On the night of May 9, I received a call from US Vice President JD Vance while I was in a meeting with our armed forces,” the Prime Minister told Parliament. “When I returned the call, Vance said Pakistan was planning a major strike. I told him clearly: if Pakistan attacks, we will attack harder. They will face cannons for every bullet.”

He added that between May 9 and 10, Indian forces decimated Pakistan’s defences, and reiterated that Operation Sindoor remains active.

“Today, Pakistan knows our response is always stronger than the last. They know that if provoked, India can do anything,” Modi said.

He reiterated that India’s objective from the outset was to dismantle terror camps in response to the Pakistan-backed April 22 attack in Pahalgam, calling the operation non-escalatory and focused on neutralising terror infrastructure.

Describing the aftermath of the strikes, Modi said, “After we succeeded, our Army informed Pakistan’s Army that our mission was complete. This was done to gauge their response. If Pakistan had any wisdom, it would have distanced itself from terror. Instead, it chose to stand openly with terrorists.”

Modi claimed India’s decisive response sent a message Pakistan would not forget. “Our missiles hit deep into Pakistan, in ways they had never imagined. It brought them to their knees,” he said.

Recounting a pivotal moment, Modi said Pakistan’s military pleaded for a halt. “They contacted our Director General of Military Operations and said: Bas karo, bahut maara, ab zyada maar jhelne ki taqat nahi hai. They begged us to stop. That’s when we paused,” the Prime Minister told the House.

Rejecting external influence on India’s military decisions, Modi stated, “India stopped when it wanted, not because anyone told us to.”

He also said those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack had been brought to justice and criticised the opposition for casting doubts on Operation Mahadev, which killed three Pakistani terrorists on Monday.

“Some are questioning the timing of Operation Mahadev. I ask, does terrorism wait for a schedule?” Modi said.
