New Delhi/Washington, 28 January 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in areas such as technology, trade, investment, energy, and defense during a phone call on Monday.
This marked their first interaction since Trump began his second presidential term on January 20.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said, “The leaders agreed to remain in touch and meet soon at an early mutually convenient date.”
It added that Modi and Trump discussed key aspects of the wide-ranging Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and measures to advance it across critical sectors.
The India-U.S. partnership, often dubbed a “defining partnership” of the 21st century, holds potential for collaboration in military technology, semiconductors, space exploration, artificial intelligence, and the energy sector.
Both leaders exchanged views on global developments, including the situation in West Asia and Ukraine.
According to the PMO, Modi reiterated India’s stance urging Russia and Ukraine to avoid conflict, stating that “battlefields solve nothing.”
The conversation also touched on Israel’s recent peace accord with Hamas, which India welcomed.
Modi congratulated Trump on his historic second term, underscoring his optimism about the India-U.S. relationship.
He later expressed his sentiments in a post on X, saying, “Delighted to speak with my dear friend President Donald Trump. Congratulated him on his historic second term. We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership, and we will work together for the welfare of our people and global peace, prosperity, and security.”
Both leaders reiterated their focus on promoting global stability and fostering prosperity, with Modi emphasizing the potential of the strategic partnership to address shared global challenges.
