New Delhi, May 24– Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called for a unified national effort between the Centre and states to transform India into a developed nation by 2047, asserting that “no goal is impossible” if all work together as “Team India.”
Speaking at the 10th Governing Council meeting of Niti Aayog, Modi reiterated that the dream of a Viksit Bharat (developed India) hinges on the progress of each individual state.
“When every state is viksit, then Bharat will be viksit,” he said, adding, “This is the aspiration of its 140 crore citizens.”
The meeting, which revolved around the theme Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat@2047, was marked by absences from key Opposition leaders, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. However, counterparts from other non-BJP-ruled regions—such as Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir—were in attendance.
The context of Modi’s remarks is significant, as critics, particularly leaders of non-BJP states, have frequently accused his government of undermining cooperative federalism. Against this backdrop, Modi’s call for unity served as both a policy push and a political message.
He laid out a broad framework, urging states to drive development at every level: “We should aim to make every state viksit, every city viksit, every municipal body viksit, and every village viksit. If we move in this direction, we won’t have to wait till 2047 for a developed India.”
In a bid to spur regional economies and tourism, the Prime Minister also proposed that each state develop one world-class tourist destination. “One State: One Global Destination,” he said, suggesting that such efforts would boost nearby towns and cities and create integrated zones of prosperity.
Modi concluded with a reaffirmation of his government’s belief in a collaborative approach: “Viksit Bharat is not just a dream of the government. It is the shared vision of 140 crore Indians. If we act in unity, we can achieve it together.”
