Mohali Civil Hospital Drops to 14th in Punjab Rankings

Mohali, 7 February 2025: Phase-6 Civil Hospital, once a key healthcare institution in Mohali, has witnessed a sharp decline in its performance, ranking 14th in Punjab’s latest hospital assessment.

The facility failed to meet the qualifying benchmark of 70 points, scoring only 64.61 out of 100—a significant drop from its previous standings.

Deputy Mayor Kuljeet Singh Bedi raised concerns over the hospital’s deteriorating condition, blaming the state government for neglecting healthcare infrastructure.

“The hospital, once a trusted facility, has now become a mere referral center. The government talks about setting up medical colleges, but the reality on the ground tells a different story,” he said.

He also alleged that funds meant for mohalla clinics had been mismanaged, with the administration prioritizing political publicity over healthcare delivery.

Patients increasingly turn to Chandigarh’s GMSH-16, GMCH-32, and PGIMER due to the lack of adequate facilities at the civil hospital, Bedi mentioned.

However, Mohali Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr. H.S. Cheema attributed the ranking drop to ongoing construction at the hospital.

“New wards, parking areas, and OPD private rooms are being built, which has caused cleanliness issues. All paperwork is in order—it’s just a matter of resolving the hygiene situation,” he stated.

Bedi has urged the health department to take immediate steps to restore the hospital’s credibility and ensure it meets the city’s growing healthcare needs.
