SAS Nagar, April 28 — Punjab Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh on Monday said Mohali would soon emerge as the most beautiful part in the tricity area, following a focused push to resolve interdepartmental issues affecting its development.
During a visit to the Municipal Corporation Mohali office, Dr. Singh reviewed various civic challenges and directed officials to expedite solutions.
“This visit has been specially planned on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to find the root of the problems facing Mohali and implement the needed remedies,” he said.
Acknowledging that administrative control of Mohali is shared between GMADA and the Municipal Corporation, Dr. Singh announced that a high-level meeting involving officials from both bodies would be convened soon in Chandigarh.
“Permanent solutions will be drawn after detailed discussions,” he added.
At the meeting, Municipal Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh briefed the minister on the corporation’s income, sanitation efforts, waste and wet management, drinking water supply, property tax collections, and ongoing construction activities in newly merged villages.
Additional Principal Secretary, Local Government Department, Tejveer Singh, told Dr. Singh that the city’s rapid expansion, driven by a surge in housing projects, had outpaced existing civic infrastructure.
“Special efforts are underway to ensure Mohali’s development and beautification,” Tejveer Singh noted.
Waste management issues, particularly the handling of garbage dumps in GMADA-controlled areas, were also reviewed.
Officials decided to hold a joint MC-GMADA meeting to streamline garbage disposal and improve sanitation.
Dr. Singh instructed officials to clear debris and garbage along city roads more aggressively and to coordinate with Resident Welfare Associations for maintaining public parks.
Following the meeting, Dr. Singh, accompanied by MLA Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar S. Kulwant Singh, visited several city sites, including the RMC points at Mauli Baidwan and Phase 11, the garbage vulnerable point at Mataur, the road widening project from Bawa Fight House to Phase 7, and the nature park behind the Punjab School Education Board.
Assuring full support to MLA Kulwant Singh, Dr. Singh said a joint MC-GMADA strategy would soon be drafted to address key urban challenges, particularly traffic management.
“We are committed to positioning Mohali as Punjab’s most beautiful city,” he said.
Chairman of Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board Dr. Sunny Singh Ahluwalia, Chairperson of District Planning Committee Prabhjot Kaur, Chairman of Market Committee Mohali Govinder Mittal, and senior MC officials were also present during the visit.
