Bhopal, 3 January 2024: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has ruled in favor of an adult couple seeking to live together without marriage, emphasizing their right to choose their own life paths. Justice Subodh Abhyankar, in his verdict, noted that both individuals are over 18 and their decision to live together must be safeguarded from external interference.

The court, while recognizing the couple’s right, also highlighted the importance of maturity and financial independence in a live-in relationship to avoid future complications. Despite this, the bench supported the couple, respecting their personal circumstances and autonomy.

The petitioner, a young woman, informed the court that her decision was driven by challenging conditions at home after her mother’s death. She stated that her living situation had become unbearable, leading her to choose a live-in arrangement with her partner.

This landmark judgment underlines the balance between individual autonomy and societal expectations, marking a progressive stance in such personal matters.
