Chandigarh, 20 February 2025— The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has claimed that Rohan Masih and Vishal Masih, accused in the Chandigarh grenade attack case, were funded and supplied with weapons by foreign-based individuals to execute terror acts in Punjab and Chandigarh.

According to the agency, the attack was part of a broader conspiracy orchestrated by Harwinder Singh alias Rinda and Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia.

The duo allegedly planned the assassination of a retired Punjab police officer in Chandigarh. Investigators found that Rohan Masih, along with an associate of Harpreet Singh, had been conducting surveillance on the target’s residence since June 2024.

NIA has sought a production warrant for the two accused, who allegedly hurled a grenade at a house in Sector 10D, Chandigarh, on September 11, 2024.

The case was initially handled by Chandigarh Police before being transferred to NIA by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Forensic analysis of three mobile phones seized from the accused revealed incriminating data, including chats, videos, photos, and foreign contact numbers.

“The evidence recovered supports our investigation into the larger network behind the attack,” an NIA official said. The devices were examined at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Chandigarh.

The agency is also probing the accused’s role in a separate firing incident targeting a businessman in Ramdas, Punjab. Investigators are working to uncover how weapons and explosives were smuggled across borders as part of the larger conspiracy.
