Shimla, April 21— An overloaded Bolero Camper veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Gusangu village in Dodra Kwar, Shimla district, killing a 35-year-old woman and injuring 25 others, police said on Monday.

The victim, identified as Shana Devi, hailed from Dodra village and died on the spot, according to officials.

“Around 25 people were on board when the vehicle skidded and plunged into the gorge,” Shimla SSP Sanjeev Gandhi told reporters. “Rescue operations were launched immediately, and all injured persons were shifted to nearby hospitals.”

Police said 20 passengers sustained minor injuries and are receiving treatment at the Civil Hospital in Dodra Kwar. Five others, who were critically hurt, were referred to the Civil Hospital in Sandasu for advanced care.

Authorities registered a case and confirmed that the vehicle was carrying more passengers than its capacity.

“The vehicle appears to have been overloaded, and the driver lost control while negotiating a turn,” an officer at the site said, adding that the body of the deceased was recovered by rescuers shortly after the mishap.

Local police are investigating the cause of the crash, and efforts are ongoing to determine whether mechanical failure contributed to the accident.
