New Delhi, July 22: Opposition parliamentarians arrived at Parliament dressed in black attire on Wednesday morning to protest police action against student agitators and the detention of top political leaders near Lok Kalyan Marg. The unified demonstration gathered near the main entrance gates, featuring Congress representatives alongside Samajwadi Party MPs wearing symbolic black scarves.
The parliamentarians stepped up their demands, calling for the immediate resignations of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Opposition spokespersons asserted that official accountability must precede any structured parliamentary discussion on national examination irregularities and subsequent security measures.
Treasury benches indicated readiness to facilitate a structured debate in both Houses of Parliament, with procedural rules to be finalized by the Speaker. However, opposition leaders maintained that formal parliamentary talks remain contingent on the resignation of the Education Minister.
The ruling party asserted that opposition groups were attempting to politicize student grievances for electoral momentum, warning of potential counter-protests across regional centers.
“After the police baton-charge on students, accountability must take precedence over talk. The Education Minister’s resignation remains a non-negotiable prerequisite,” stated Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera.
The demonstration signals continued procedural disruption as both Houses assemble for the current session.
