NEW DELHI, OCT 9: President Droupadi Murmu agreed to meet representatives of the opposition INDIA alliance at Rashtrapati Bhavan, granting an appointment as sustained demonstrations against the Election Commission continue across the capital. Opposition leaders, who maintained three consecutive days of protests, are seeking the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the scrapping of the Special Intensive Revision process, and the reinstatement of 13 crore excluded voters. The delegation confirmed plans to submit a formal memorandum while initiating fresh steps to seek the top election official’s removal through parliamentary proceedings.

The poll body defended the revision measure, asserting that the Supreme Court upheld the process and noting that the removed names largely comprised deceased, duplicate, or ineligible individuals. Meanwhile, the apex court called for commission records to verify whether key decisions adhered to the statutory majority requirement under the 1995 law or were executed unilaterally.
