Jalandhar, Jan 8: Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Thursday alleged that resistance to the Viksit Bharat Ji Ram Ji Scheme stems from fear among political opponents that their “corrupt earnings” would come to an end once the new law is implemented.
Addressing a public awareness rally at village Foldiwal in Jalandhar, Jakhar said the scheme introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensures that funds meant for labourers reach them directly, without contractors or middlemen.
“The new system guarantees that money meant for the poor is credited straight into their bank accounts. That is why the AAP and the Congress are opposing it,” Jakhar said.
He added that the scheme increases guaranteed employment from 100 to 125 days, calling it a step focused on labour welfare and village development.
Jakhar also criticised the opposition parties for objecting to the inclusion of the word “Ram” in the scheme’s name. Referring to remarks allegedly made by former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi in the Assembly, he said, “The language used for Guru Sahibs has exposed the real character of the AAP.”
Raising serious allegations, Jakhar demanded an impartial investigation into a video involving Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann that is circulating on social media. “It must be probed whether the video is real or AI-generated. If it is genuine, such a person has no moral authority to continue as Chief Minister,” he said, seeking a High Court-monitored inquiry and a special session of the Punjab Assembly.
Jakhar also accused the AAP government of misusing public funds on advertisements outside Punjab. “Money that should be spent on development is being used to serve political interests in other states,” he said.
On law and order, Jakhar said Punjab had witnessed nine murders in seven days, claiming that fear of the police had eroded and drug abuse was rising. “The government’s publicity campaign against drugs only shows its failure on the ground,” he added.
Earlier, BJP national secretary and Punjab co-incharge Narinder Raina accused the AAP of opposing Central schemes as a matter of principle. “CAG reports exposed corruption in MGNREGA, and reforms were brought in to stop the loot of money meant for the poor,” he said.
Several BJP leaders, including Manoranjan Kalia and Sushil Rinku, also addressed the rally.
